What You Should Know About Mould
The most common form of mould associated with water damage is Aspergillus/Penicullium. This mould can grow on materials, such as fiberboard, gypsum board, paper, dust, and lint. Mould growing in homes and buildings, whether “black” mould or other moulds, indicates there is a problem with moisture or water.
Growth occurs when there is moisture from water damage, excessive humidity, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding. Constant moisture is required for its growth, causing mould to start growing in less than 48 hours of moisture or exposure. Evidence of growth can usually be seen (discoloration) or smelled (damp, musty odor).
